Safe Learning in remote mountain regions of Nepal

Projekt Partner

Plan International is an independent development cooperation and humanitarian aid organization. Girls and boys around the world should have equal rights and opportunities and be able to actively shape their future. To achieve this, we implement efficient and transparent projects for sustainable community development in our partner countries and respond quickly to emergencies and disasters that threaten children’s lives.

In more than 45 countries, we work hand in hand with children, young people, supporters, and partners of all genders to achieve our global goal: 100 million girls should learn, lead, decide, and reach their full potential. The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals reinforce our commitment.

Project Information

The Karnali province in western Nepal is one of the poorest in the country and is also a very mountainous region. Long journeys to school make access to schools difficult, especially in the rainy and winter months. Children with disabilities face particular challenges, as schools are not tailored to their needs. As a result, one third of them do not attend school.

How did the Diyi for Kids Foundation provide support?

Thanks to the project, a total of 3,660 students now have access to high-quality, inclusive education in a safe environment, as well as improved water and sanitation facilities. The two schools in the Jumla district that were destroyed by the 2015 earthquake were completely renovated as part of the project. Both schools now also have barrier-free access in the form of ramps. In addition, the schools were equipped with desks, chairs, and shelves.

The measures benefited 715 schoolchildren and 30 teachers. Training courses have also made all those involved more aware of their responsibility to protect the school against natural disasters.
