The round table – Marine waste as a business game for pupils

Sep 10, 2020

Marine waste in the oceans – this can’t go on.
Around 70% of the earth’s surface is covered with seas and oceans. Marine plants produce about half of the oxygen we breathe: They need a lot more of our attention. The colleagues of Bildungscent e.V. have taken up this awareness raising on the subject of waste in the seas and oceans with the professional support of the Lower Saxony State Office for Water Management, Coastal and Nature Conservation and have developed the business game “The Round Table on Marine Waste as a Business Game for School Pupils”.

In the game, the players represent different social groups, such as consumers, recycling companies or managers of a cruise line. They have an influence on solutions with regard to the increasing littering of the seas and oceans. The aim is for the players to deal with the problem of marine waste and its challenges. They develop an awareness of the different social groups involved in finding solutions and of the fact that solutions can only be found together. The game presents different cases that need to be solved. The students and teachers of the Cäcilienschule in Oldenburg were actively involved as “pilots” and their feedback was incorporated. Now, the business game can be offered to many more schools.

The Diyi for Kids Foundation supports with your donations these and many other initiatives of Bildungscent e.V. to raise awareness in schools for the protection of our global climate.
