The tomato season is starting again

May 5, 2025

It’s that time again! Spring is in full swing, and next week around 800 seedlings of this year’s tomatoes will be delivered by Hartmut Buchwald and Leo Deckbar from the @buergerstiftungberlin to more than 50 schools, daycare centers, and learning institutions. Now it’s all about gardening sustainably with the children and nurturing the plants until they blossom into tomatoes by July.

Hartmut has planted over 3,000 seedlings – and there are still some left. If your childcare facility would like to run a tomato project week, feel free to get in touch with me. We’ll be happy to add you to the distribution list. Hartmut is also glad to visit in person and explain how a tiny seed grows into a ripe tomato. He’s a true expert – and with 110 varieties, a real one-of-a-kind in Berlin’s tomato scene.
