Nepal project: high number of applicants shows broad acceptance

Mar 9, 2024

To offer young women and men in the agricultural regions of Dhanusha and Sindhuli in Nepal a professional future, income opportunities and prospects in life our project partner Plan International has launched this project.

The aim is to provide young people with important skills for the labour market. Specifically, the project staff provide trainings and workshops on topics such as setting up a business, finance and problem-solving and decision-making skills. For participants with limited knowledge, there are also reading, writing and maths courses, as well as English and computer courses.

The project has got off to a successful start and the kick-off events with local authorities, project partners and government representatives have been a success. In the meantime, the project staff have also been trained and the project has been presented in the participating municipalities. As a result, more than 1,700 young people applied to take part in the training courses. A total of 248 young men and 302 young women aged between 18 and 24 have now been selected. Special consideration was given to households headed solely by women or families in which people with disabilities live.

We use our donations to support the vocational training of the young people. For example, 828 euros can be used to pay for training for one apprentice. Around 1,500 euros are needed to set up eight childcare rooms so that mothers can also take part in the training courses. You can find the detailed interim report of the project here.
