Our second international project in Nepal has also been fully financed by our partner Plan International.
The implementation of repairs at the Churiyamai and Kalika schools, destroyed by the earthquake in 2015, has been completed. Many thanks to all Diyi for Kids donors who made this project possible. Further information about the project can be found here.
Information about the project:
After the big earthquake in Nepal in 2015, 47,497 schools out of a total of 84,000 schools were destroyed or damaged. This means that about 43% of the classrooms were no longer safe. The Makwanpur region, where our godchild Diya also goes to school, had particularly been affected.
How has the Diyi for Kids Foundation helped?
Renovations and repairs have been carried out at Churiyamai and Kalika schools so that the children can learn in a safe environment. In addition, teachers and students took part in training sessions on how to behave and protect themselves in the event of disasters. A special highlight was the founding of the “Child Clubs”, in which girls and boys learn to represent their interests and promote personal strengths. Workshops with teachers, local authorities and the pupils were held in the school districts to raise awareness of a protected and inclusive learning environment and to ensure that it is sustainable. The project aims to provide children, especially girls and children with disabilities, with safe access to education and a protected learning environment. A total of 3,660 girls and boys aged between three and 16 years benefited from these activities.
