Nepal Project Update – Learning in a safer environment

Oct 29, 2019

Last week we received information about the project “Learning in a safer environment” from Nepal. The big earthquake in 2015 has put many schools in a very bad condition.

With our partner Plan International it is our goal to re-establish the two schools in Churiyamai and Kalika and to create initiatives regarding disaster protection and awareness for equal rights.

In the meantime, the conversion and renovation work at the Churiyamai School has been successfully completed. The water supply has also been repaired. This applies to many schools, as the water veins were displaced by the earthquake and the water connection no longer functioned as a result. At Churiyamai School, 458 students*and 20 teachers are benefiting from the measures. Both, at Churiyamai and at 10 other project schools, the children’s clubs have been strengthened or newly founded and initial training sessions on the subject of “catastrophe protection” and evacuation exercises have taken place. Both, students* and teachers now feel safer and stay longer in the building.

The training on “equal rights” inspired a teacher, among other things, to work for separate girls’ toilets at the school. Every donation counts! We now continue to support the Kalika School with your help!
